Dr. Marco Magalhaes
Dr. Marco Magalhaes is a clinician-scientist who combines experience in cancer cell biology, immunology with clinical training in Oral Medicine and Pathology. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Dentistry and the Graduate Program Director for Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine, cross-appointed to Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Magalhaes received his PhD in cell biology at the University of Toronto in 2009 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Cancer Centre in New York before returning to the University of Toronto to complete his residency in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine. Dr. Magalhaes currently has several research projects in the area of oral cancer and oral pathology and his main area of interest is the progression of oral lesions to oral cancer and facial/TMJ pain. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is a triathlete and marathon runner and enjoys long bike rides.
